Just before a storm front the last sunbeams are channeled through the clouds so that exactly this one tree is illuminated.

Here with a telephoto lens I was able to isolate an area where the thick cloud cover had opened and the sunbeams could break through.

This shot would have been impossible in one exposure. So I had to take 3 photos in which I correctly exposed the dark, middle and light image areas respectively. I combined the 3 shots into one image in Photoshop.

Shooting position

The size of the depiction can be very nicely influenced by the choice of shooting position. Small objects can be portrayed larger, larger objects smaller, or large objects even larger. Basically the differentiation is between photographs taken from the bottom up, in a horizontal position and from the top down.
