Farmer’s Market

Cut flowers can no longer be purchased at California farmer’s markets—at least not in the San Joaquin Valley. I can’t explain the decision, nor do I have the room to try. However, this is a good example of filling the frame, especially when it is all the same stuff and the same hue. There is also more layering here than you might realize at first.

Blue Agave

In this image of blue agave, we have repeating shapes and alternating layers of light and dark. This was made in the parking lot of a business—you just have to keep your eyes open for good subjects. Being a minute or two late to a meeting but with a fun image in-hand is not a bad way to live life. You can even own it and get the person talking about a plant they may or may not have really looked at before. Or, be crazy and get places early; give yourself the time to find some serendipity!
