The Green Man says, ‘Jack? I was so looking forward to chopping off your head. But you’re not a bright boy. Which of my daughters has helped you?’

Jack says nothing.

‘That will cost you three tasks, Jack! First, clean my barn,’ and the Green Man gives Jack a shovel and opens the barn door. It’s piled high with cachu (poo). Jack throws a steaming shovel full out the window, and three come back and hit him splat in the face. He throws down the shovel and has a tantrum.

Youngest Daughter appears, ‘Jack, stop crying. Go and clean yourself up.’

When Jack returns, the stable is spotless.

The Green Man says, ‘Jack, and I was so looking forward to chopping off your head. Which of my daughters has helped you?’

Jack says nothing.

‘Jack, your second task. In the middle of the lake is a glass mountain. On the top is the nest of the rarest bird in the world. Bring me her egg.’
