A LANDMARK STUDY
Dr. Linus Pauling was an American chemist, biochemist, peace activist, author, and educator. For his scientific work, Pauling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954. For his peace activism, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962. He is one of four individuals to have won more than one Nobel Prize, the others being Marie Curie, John Bardeen, and Frederick Sanger. Of them, he is the only one awarded two unshared Nobel Prizes and one of two to be awarded the prize in different fields, the other being Marie Curie. Pauling published numerous books and hundreds of scientific papers. New Scientist called him one of the twenty greatest scientists of all time.
In the early 1990s, Dr. Pauling teamed up with physician/researcher Dr. Matthias Rath to do what turned out to be a landmark study on the effect of vitamin C on different forms of cancer. Born in 1955 in Stuttgart, Germany, Dr. Rath received his medical degree from Hamburg University Medical School. In 1989, he was invited to begin working at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine.
It might sound too good to be true that this simple, inexpensive vitamin, which can be bought over-the-counter at any drugstore, could be effective against such a baffling and resistant disease as cancer. However, according to the research of these doctors, it can stop the disease in its tracks.
The study, which spanned fifteen years, involved two groups. One group received a combination of vitamin C, L-lysine, L-proline, and EGCG (a green tea extract). The other group was put on a placebo. Research was conducted on more than two dozen cancer cell types, with results showing that the nutrient combination was effective in controlling cancer in many ways. It stopped the growth, the spread, the formation of new blood vessels in tumors (angiogenesis), and caused the natural death of cancer cells (apoptosis). At the end of the study, the researchers discovered that cancer was a collagen disease. That is, it spreads to the different tissues through the collagen.
