Chapter 20

“Frostbolt,” Sylfrin cast her spell. “Oh, no! I missed again.”

“Swift Cut,” Ranalaiya was fast to deal with the Halluspider in Sylfrin’s stead.

- “Nice kill, sweetheart. I liked how you moved your hips just now. Four experience points for you and eight for your party members.” – Lavita was as flirtatious as ever with her announcements.

Ranalaiya and Sylfrin were now teaming up to kill the green-eyed creepy spider monsters. Having a skill or a spell and effectively using it were two different things, so I had Sylfrin step up to learn how to fight. She was struggling to say the least. More often than not, Sylfrin would miss her target, and since her spell had a six-second cooldown timer, Ranalaiya had to kill the spider before it jumped on either of them. Sylfrin definitely lacked the precision and awareness to be able to hit the Halluspiders successfully. They were quite fast, of course, having eight legs, but it still came down to the person’s skill.

“I’m sorry, I’m still useless in a fight even after I have received a skill,” Sylfrin was feeling bad about it.

“Don’t worry about it, Sylfrin. All you need is fighting experience,” Ranalaiya tried to comfort her.

“Ranalaiya is right. You shouldn’t beat yourself down like that. Your negative attitude is getting in the way for you to perform better,” I supported Ranalaiya’s words.

“But... but the Halluspiders move so fast. Before I finished casting my Frostbolt spell, they’d already be gone from where they were,” Sylfrin said, and she was right.

From what I observed, it took Sylfrin about two seconds to cast her Frostbolt spell from start to finish. Two seconds was a lot in a fight, especially with fast-moving targets, and if you added the six-second cooldown time on it too, you’d end up being able to use your spell once every eight seconds. Being able to hit with a spell that you could use only once every eight seconds could mean life or death for the caster. Still, Sylfrin’s Frostbolt spell was strong, both in damage and in slowing down the target. The few times that Sylfrin managed to hit a Halluspider, the creature was slowed down considerably. The spider looked like it was frozen in a spot for a moment even. And if we talk about how powerful her Frostbolt spell was, it killed a Halluspider in an instant when Sylfrin managed to land a direct hit on it. It happened only once so far, but it was more than enough for me to realize how powerful her magic was. I was almost convinced it was thanks to her Spell Power stat being so high that her Frostbolt spell was so strong.

“That just means you need to learn to anticipate where your target will move to before you release your spell, Sylfrin,” I continued with the instructions.

“Anticipate? Do you mean I need to be able to guess where the monster will move, Master Rockin?” Sylfrin was a little confused about my suggestion.

“It’s not guessing, it’s more of knowing how and where the monster would move,” I tried to explain again.
