“I know you’re useless in the kitchen,” Tim said in good humor, “so why don’t you let me fix breakfast and you set the table?”

Maya dropped the cheese she’d been grating and cursed. A red drop pooled on the tip of her finger where she’d nicked it.

He walked over and took her hand. “Let me see that.”

His eyes darkened as he studied the small wound. Could she ever get used to the idea of having a dhampir lover? She never grew accustomed to Joss’s habit of tasting blood. “With pleasure.” Cesar yawned and rubbed the back of his neck as he filled a mug with coffee. “Didn’t sleep much. I tested the house for bugs, as you asked. Every nook and cranny.”

Maya turned away so Cesar couldn’t see her face. She’d move the bug later to a more appropriate place.

Before Tim could reply, Frida popped her head around the frame. “Tim, call for you.
