By the time Obadiah Ben-David and Rachel Roberts pulled into Darwinger’s parking lot at ten-thirty in the morning, there was only one open spot left. Without a cloud in the lively azure sky above, the sun’s rays were like pulsating waves of heat that created one of those perfect summer days in Michigan, where the outdoor activities seemed endless. If not for working on the case—or working on her novel—Rachel would have been spending the day on the beach or hiking the trails out by the Hampstead lighthouse.

She knew, however, that the beautiful weather was due to change after dinner tonight, and the Huron breezes would be back in force—even more than last night.

Ben-David parked the van and went inside to fetch Baby Lloyd.

She looked at her phone and saw that she had a text message from Topaz Kennedy.

Morning, bestseller. Ejogo and Vergara signed on for film 4 last night. Affleck to direct. Rhimes and Kasdan to write. Team is back! No novel. No script. No problem. All betting on you, darling. Writing must start soon. Found your murderer yet? Call me after 3.
