24: PRAYING WITH A CRYSTAL

People have prayed throughout history. Even today, when many people focus solely on the physical aspects of life, people who claim to have no faith frequently turn to prayer in moments of crisis. This shows that at heart we are all spiritual beings and seek a spiritual element in our lives.

You don’t need a crystal or anything else when you’re praying to Spirit. However, a crystal can make the prayer more effective in every way. If you touch or hold a crystal while praying, you’ll find that its energy will affect the molecular structure of your body, enabling you to relate to spiritual beings on the same wavelength as your crystal. Prayer is available to everyone. People of all traditions—and even those who have no faith—pray on occasion. It’s a universal spiritual language.

You can pray anywhere, at any time. You don’t need to visit a church or kneel beside your bed. You can pray while waiting in line at the supermarket, while having a bath, while waiting for the traffic lights to change, or while walking the dog. A prayer is a conversation with God, the Creator, the Source, the Universal Life Force, the Infinite. It is communicating with the Divine. A prayer is the language of the soul. The more you pray, the closer you’ll get to God.

Here’s a prayer ritual that will give you immediate benefits. The exchange of energy between you and the Divine will have a positive effect on every cell of your body, producing feelings of happiness and well-being.

Required: a sacred space, small table, white candle, crystal, container of water, and small container of salt.

The first stage is to create a magic circle around the table you’ll be using as an altar. You can mark the circle with a length of cord, physical objects, or candles at the four quarters of the circle. If you wish, you can visualize an imaginary circle. Place the candle, crystal, water, and salt on the altar.

Leave the circle. If possible, have a bath or shower and change into fresh, loose-fitting clothing. If you’re unable to do this, wash your face and hands before starting the ritual.

Step inside the circle and light the candle on your altar. Turn to face the east and visualize Archangel Raphael, who protects the eastern quarter of the circle. Turn to the south and welcome Archangel Michael. In your mind’s eye, see him protecting the south. Turn to the west and visualize Archangel Gabriel looking after the west. Turn to face north and welcome Archangel Uriel. Thank them for helping you.

Pick up your crystal and hold it in the palm of your left hand, which is resting on the palm of your right hand. Face east and talk to Raphael, telling him that you wish to consecrate this crystal to help you gain a closer connection with the Divine.
