Briefly: Don’t compromise your exit strategy with your JW family by reckless use of online resources.

Again, I cannot stress enough that this part is written for somebody who is leaving the WT and waiting for his JW spouse and family members to leave together with him. You shouldn’t be viewed as an “apostate” before they are ready to leave together with you.

Some exiting brothers and sisters feel a need to visit websites, online forums, Facebook groups etc. where all kinds of things (mostly negative) are shared about JWs.

Some even feel that they have to share their experiences with the world.

If this is what you need to do, then it is a good idea not to do it under your real name—if you don’t want to arouse any suspicion on the part of your JW spouse, family members and elders.

Please, consider using some of these approaches:

Make another (Facebook) profile for this purpose, with a pseudonym. Log-off at the end of each session.

Don’t “like” any posts.

Use a new, dedicated email address for this purpose.

If you really need to share your thoughts anywhere online, write in a different way than you normally do.

Don’t share any pictures of yourself or brothers and sisters from your congregation.

Don’t share any recordings from your congregation (audio, video).

Use your own computer for these online activities, a computer nobody else uses.

The safest thing could be to read these online materials on your own smartphone. If you do, never give your smartphone to anybody; never let your children play with it.
