Prepare a reference list that includes contact details and the position or job they hold. Employers often ask for three references on your resume, so make sure you have details that correspond to the ones you submitted and additional references you can give if asked. When preparing your list, include telephone numbers, email addresses, and a sentence explaining who they are and why they are relevant to you. Don’t forget to include some former clients or customers if you have held client-facing roles. They can supply additional information from a different perspective.

If you don’t have a lot of work experience, include a favorite professor or career advisor. People you have worked with in college or school are a great way to provide an insight into your personality and work ethic. You can also include people who have been leaders in your past. An older student who helped you with your classwork or a youth club leader should also be considered. Don’t forget to ask people if they are okay with you listing them as a reference before giving their details.

If you have certificates or paperwork relating to achievements, make sure you have copies available. Prepare a folder to keep all your paperwork to hand, so you don’t need to rifle through your bag during your interview.
