Chapter Eight

I don’t know how much time had passed when I opened my eyes from the doze I’d fallen into, but there was no more light coming in from around the bedroom blinds. I blinked the sleep from my eyes and stretched, noticing every new muscle ache and twinge.

I couldn’t fight a smile if I tried. And I was thankful for the dark because I had a feeling the smile was a pretty silly one. Hunter had made good and then some on his promise to improvise. No wonder I fell asleep. I was actually more surprised I hadn’t just blacked out by the end. Hunter had done things to me and made my body do things I hadn’t known were possible.

I took a long moment to have an inner mini-freak out session. I had sex with Hunter Lawson! How many years had I dreamed of it? I’d never thought it would happen, but here I laid, a little sore and very satisfied, after Hunter Lawson had his way with me.

Pressing my hands out to my sides, it occurred to me that Hunter was MIA. I turned onto my side and ran my hand down the mattress, but it had already gone cold.

I shivered and suddenly some of my elation vanished, as I wished for some covers. Without Hunter here to keep me and my thoughts otherwise occupied, I found myself self-conscious of my nudity. Not to mention cold. For the first time since Hunter stripped my clothes off me, I noticed the chill in the room.

And where was Hunter? I sat up and brought my knees to my chest, hugging my arms around them. I kept still and listened, but no sound carried to my ears.

A sudden fear that Hunter had pulled the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am he was famous for back in high school paralyzed me. Had he been able to get his Harley out? Maybe as soon as I dozed off, he rode back down the mountain without me.

A lump formed in my throat, and fear pushed me out of bed. I headed straight for the window. Peeking out between the blinds, I blew out a sigh. The moonlight gave off just enough light to show me the snow had fallen steadily since we got here. It was nowhere near blizzard conditions, but even Hunter’s commitment phobia wouldn’t make him take a chance and ride his bike down the mountain in this weather.

I shook my head at my own foolishness. Hunter might be out of my league, but that didn’t mean he’d leave his best friend’s little sister stranded in some solitary cabin on her own.

As soon as the thought hit me, the door creaked open.

“You’re awake.” Hunter strode into the room. He’d put his jeans back on, but the button was undone and his chest was still bare.

I wish I could say I had a moment of modesty, but the sight of him knocked the breath from my lungs. I was far too busy ogling the man I’d been
