Chapter Fourteen

Alexander and Elizabeth laid in a sweaty heap on her bed, both of them trying to catch their breath. Night had fallen while they were in the middle of things, leaving them in darkness. He was laid back, his head resting on the pillows, splayed out across the bed. She had her head resting against his chest, her left arm draped over his stomach, fingers idly rubbing against his side. The two of them were utterly spent, neither of them having the strength to be able to even get to their feet at that moment. So, they lay there, basking in the afterglow, enjoying the warmth of each other’s naked bodies.

“Would I ruin the mood by asking a personal question?” He said, finally breaking the silence.

“What do you want to ask?” Elizabeth said, looking up into his eyes.

“Do you really want to be a dominatrix for the rest of your life?” Alexander asked, looking into her eyes.

She shook her head. “No. I went to school because I wanted to do something creative. When things played out well with the escort job and now this role, I never really bothered looking for anything else. It just happened and changing what I was doing hadn’t really been high on the priority list.”

“Have you ever looked for a job other than what you were doing?”

“I did, for a little bit,” Elizabeth said, resting her head back onto Alexander’s chest. “I couldn’t find anything that I was really happy with. They were all corporate jobs that wanted me to make pretty boring things. Big banners for sales, tags for stuff, just things where I couldn’t be creative. Plus, the pay was garbage. I would make more with a few client sessions than I would in a month.”

Alexander rested his hand on her shoulder, idly rubbing at it. “I can see things a bit better now. It’s hard to make changes in your life.”

She looked back up at him. “Do you mind if I ask you a personal question now?”

He shook his head. “Not at all,” He said.

“How bad were your relationships before?” Elizabeth asked softly, her hand resting on his chest. “You seemed so hesitant and fearful before. Had things just not been well before?”

Alexander bit his bottom lip hard. “The last one was pretty bad,” He said. This would be the first time he talked to someone about these past relationships besides his brother. “The last person I dated, Klaudia… we only lasted two weeks. We got into some stupid argument. I don’t even remember what it was about. She hit me.” He paused, struggling to move on with the conversation. “I tried to walk out of her apartment and she hit me again before I left. I got away, deleted her number from my phone and cried when I got home. At that time, I just felt sort of weak. She tried calling and texting me and coming to my apartment a few times.
