Chapter Six

Somehow in four months, Hawke ended up living with Maddox. He wasn’t entirely sure how it happened. One day, he left a pair of jeans at the man’s apartment and then his toothbrush. The next thing he knew, he was passing the keys to his apartment back to Sophie because there was nothing left inside. They never discussed it. Things just were the way they were between them. If Hawke didn’t know better, he’d think Maddox had masterminded the whole thing. After all, he’d been the one to suggest Hawke’s couch would fit perfectly against the empty wall in the living room and they’d be more comfortable sleeping in Hawke’s larger bed. He still shook his head any time he stopped to think about it. It had seriously just happened. Nights like tonight, where they went to the gym together before getting groceries, had somehow become normal. Hawke had a hard time believing it was real.

His phone rang as they carried the last bags through the door. He pressed it to his ear even as he tried juggling everything he was carrying. Maddox relieved him of his burden the second his hands were free.

“Hello?”

“Would you and Maddox like to come to dinner tomorrow night?”

“Hello to you, as well, Sophie. I’m doing great. Thanks for asking. It’s good to hear you’re getting on so well. We should have these little chats more often.”

Silence rang through the line. Hawke put away groceries while waiting her out. Finally, she sighed. “Are you finished?”

“I believe so yes.”

“Good. Would you and Maddox like to come over for dinner tomorrow night?”

Maddox was smiling. Hawke could tell by the curve of his jaw he found their conversation humorous. “Hold on, let me ask Maddox.” He tilted the phone away from his mouth. “Do you care if we go to Sophie’s for dinner tomorrow night?”

“Tell him Jamie and Joss will be there,” Sophie added, obviously attempting to sweeten the deal.

“What I’m not enough?” He joked before relaying her message. “She says Joss and Jamie will be there.”

Maddox glanced over his shoulder as he shoved a box in the cabinet. “We have Addison tomorrow night.”

“We have Addison tomorrow night. As long as that’s okay, then I’m cool with whatever.”

“Oh yay! Please bring her. Please?” Sophie begged, making Hawke chuckle. He loved having his tiny family accepted. Every day he couldn’t believe how lucky he was.

“Sounds good.”

“Yay! So we’re eating at seven.”

Maddox reached above his head, dragging Hawke’s attention his way. He loved the way Maddox looked in workout shorts. They hugged his ass perfectly making Hawke’s mouth go dry. Sophie was giving him a list of what she had on the menu. Hawke tuned her out, choosing instead to press against Maddox’s back, pinning him against the counter. He touched his lips to Maddox’s neck. Maddox dropped his chin to his chest giving Hawke better access. Chill bumps rose on the other man’s skin as Hawke’s tongue stroked the same spot his lips had touched. “I’m so glad you’re coming tomorrow.
