Come to a kneeling position with your toes tucked under. Place your hands on your lower back, fingers pointing downward. As you inhale, lift your chest and gently arch your back, leaning back and bringing your hands to your heels. Keep your hips aligned over your knees.

Visualize an unseen thread of energy extending from the center of your heart and ascending toward the ceiling, as if gently pulling your heart space upward. This imagery helps enhance the opening of your heart chakra during the pose.

Hold this pose for about twenty to thirty seconds. When you feel complete, release the pose and sit back on your heels. Place one hand on your heart, close your eyes, and breathe deeply as you regain your grounding.

Modification

For a gentler version of camel pose, do not release the hands to your heels. Keep your hands on your lower back for support as you gently arch your back, lifting your chest while keeping your hips aligned over your knees.

To come out of the pose, press into your forearms to lift your head and then release your back and chest down to the mat.
