CHAPTER THREE

HIS VIVID BLUE eyes haunted her.

Later that afternoon, Indigo clipped a fresh paper to the easel. She couldn’t stop thinking of the prince. He was not what she’d been expecting. Not at all.

Somehow she’d imagined him as a spoiled brat. He was not that. She’d expected him to be totally full of himself. He hadn’t been. And she’d expected him to take himself too seriously—to the point where he wouldn’t have been able to appreciate the sketch she’d done of him. And yet he’d genuinely seemed to like the silly sketch. What did that mean?

It would be so much easier to dislike the prince if he had some obvious negative qualities. But right now she was struggling to find something legitimate to dislike about him—other than his lineage.

As she bent over to retrieve a fresh pen from her large tote, she heard someone approaching. “Have a seat. I’ll be right with you.”

They didn’t say a word, but she sensed their presence. She straightened, clipped the paper to the board and then glanced around it. She struggled not to gape when she found the prince sitting on the stool. Again.

Heat swirled in her chest. “Your Highness, you’re back.”

She noticed this time he was wearing a white T-shirt with the race logo on it. She felt an instant pang of disappointment at not getting another glimpse of his muscled chest. She swallowed hard.

When her gaze rose to meet his, she asked, “What can I do for you?”

“I would like to have another sketch done. I’m more than willing to compensate you.”

“Another?” No one ever came back to her and requested a second sketch. “Did something happen to the first one?”

“No. Actually, I need another for a charity auction.”

Charity? The prince? Really?

Nothing about the man sitting in front of her was like her father had warned her about the royal family. Istvan was not cold. He was not harsh. And he was not mean.

What was she supposed to make of this prince with his generous heart and dazzling smile that made her stomach dip? The only thing she knew was that the more time she spent with him, the more confused she became. It was best to keep her distance.

“Can’t you use the sketch I already drew for you?”

“It can’t be that one.”

“Why? Was it too silly?” She’d been waiting for him to show his true colors.

He shook his head. “No. It was perfect. That’s why I’m keeping it. I need another one for the auction.”

“Something more serious?”

“Not at all. I enjoy your sense of humor. So have at it. I don’t want any special treatment. You can do the same thing or something different. I don’t care.”

She inwardly groaned. What was it with this guy? He was making it impossible for her to dislike him. In fact, if she spent more time with him, she might fall for his azure-blue eyes and his sexy accent.

It was best to get this over with as quickly as possible. Indigo was certain that once she completed the sketch she wouldn’t see the prince again.
