2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3½ cups of the flour, remaining ¼ cup sugar, and the salt. Add the cubed butter, and using a pastry blender or your fingertips, work in the butter until the mixture resembles meal-size crumbs.
3. Make a well in the center of the crumb mixture. In a separate bowl, using a small whisk or fork, mix the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in the dissolved yeast and pour the liquids into the well. With a wooden spoon, gradually work the crumbs into the liquid, mixing until all the crumbs are incorporated and a rough dough is formed. Sprinkle the work surface with half of the remaining ¼ cup flour. Turn the dough onto the floured surface and knead the dough for 6 to 8 minutes, gradually incorporating the remainder of the flour.
