Two days later, Anika flounced into Cameron’s place, plopping on the sofa and crossing her legs, arms folded as she glared at him. Cameron chuckled.

‘You look happy.’

‘How am I supposed to look?’ She snapped.

‘What’s happened? Spence pissed you off?’

‘It’s not about Spence,’ she replied. ‘It’s about you.’

‘What about me?’ Cameron mockingly covered his mouth in shock.

‘What the hell were you doing in town with that little slut?’

Cameron frowned. ‘Have you been spying on me?’

‘What? Course I haven’t. You were tagged in a picture, and it popped up on my feed. Stop avoiding the question.’

‘I don’t need to avoid the question. You know exactly what I was doing.’

Anika shook her head. ‘I can’t believe you.’

‘Why not?’

‘We’re supposed to have something. Why else would you stalk me in the club, mentioning Fiji, seeking me out?’

Cameron chuckled, the fact he wasn’t taking her seriously only making her angrier. She didn’t know what it would take to get him to understand how she was feeling.

She was sharply reminded of how things had been back in the day for them. Cameron had a wandering eye and would often flirt with girls around her and either play dumb, or downplay it later. She wondered what she expected from him, and why she was so surprised that he couldn’t change.

‘Don’t laugh. It’s not funny.’ Anika threw up her hands.

‘Depends where you’re sitting, I guess. I think it’s hilarious.’

Anika scowled. ‘Did you sleep with her?’

‘Does it matter if I did or not?’

‘That’s a yes then,’ scoffed Anika.

‘It doesn’t matter to you if I did or not. You have a man. You’re living with one of my best friends. Are you really going to pretend nothing is going on with you? Are you going to lie and say you’re not grinding Spence?’

Anika’s mouth fell open at the sight of Cameron’s outburst. She wondered just how affected he was at the fact she was in a relationship with Spence. She started to think he had been hiding his feelings for a long time, and that the truth was slipping out.

‘You approached me, Cam. Not the other way around. I didn’t tell you to come up to me in the club and try sweet-talking me, did I?’

‘You were fucking eager for it, though. You have been all along, because you knew we had unfinished business. That unfinished business had you coming all over my dick, didn’t it?’

‘Is that all it was about? Sex?’

‘No, but we did have sex. You did cheat on your man, and now you’re acting all confused and mad, but if you’re really serious . . . if you’re really about it, then break up with him.’

‘What?’ Anika gasped.

‘Don’t act like you didn’t hear me. Dump him. Tell him you don’t love him, move out of the spot, because I know it’s all in his name, and move on.’

‘Move on with you?’

Cameron shook his head. ‘This ain’t about me. This is about you. There’s a connection with us. Fucking lights up every time we’re around one another, but I can’t be your excuse to do what it is you wanna do in life.
