When the Path before You Is Dark and

Dangerous, Remember God Is with You!

One Saturday morning, some kids met with their teacher, to hike to a place called Blue Pool where a swift, powerful river thunders down into a deep, blue, crystal-clear pool. The group was supposed to leave early, but some of the kids got there late. By the time they got started, it was already afternoon. The hike wasn’t very long, but the kids walked slowly and took too long to eat lunch. When they got to Blue Pool, the sun was setting. Soon, it was very dark.

The kids were frightened. For one thing, the trail had steep, narrow places, and they couldn’t see very well at all. Their teacher knew God was with them. “Let’s pray,” he told the little group. “Lord,” he said, “it’s awfully dark and we’re afraid, but we know you are with us. Please help us find our way back to the car. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

The Lord heard their prayer. He gave the teacher the idea of having each person grab hold of the hand of the person in front of him. Together they walked safely down the trail, singing all the way.

If you ever find yourself in the dark, don’t be afraid. Jesus is always with you, and he will show you the way. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12).
