Insert the 1-Mohm resistor (brown-black-green) into the breadboard.
Bend and trim the resistor leads so that each lead is about 3/8 inch long below the bend. Then plug one lead into hole 13a and the other lead into a hole in the positive power rail to the left of row 13.
Insert a 5/16-inch (minimum) jumper wire into the breadboard.
Plug one end of the jumper wire into hole 15a and the other end of the jumper wire into a hole in the negative power rail to the left of row 15.
Insert the 2N3904 NPN transistor into the breadboard.
Double-check that you have selected a 2N3904 transistor. (If you mix up the transistors, your circuit won’t work.)
Use your needle-nose pliers to gently bend the transistor pins out and down.
Hold the transistor so that its pins are facing down and the flat part of the transistor case is facing right.
