Because your home page is the first thing visitors will see, it must speak directly to your target market, letting them know they’ve come to the right place. Keep the message on your home page down to a few paragraphs and boldly convey the core benefit of your business. Focus on the keywords, features, and images that will capture the attention and interest of your target audience.
Provide a summary of your ultimate business benefit. This will help visitors decide whether your website contains information relevant to their needs. Be as direct and clear as you can. A travel site might say, “Are you a single mother who needs help planning your next family vacation?”
Next, describe how your company provides the answer to that question. Using the above example, your next line might read, “A Mother’s World is a travel service that works exclusively with single mothers. Our unique focus helps single mothers enjoy fun, educational vacations with their children.”
Finally, state how your company is the best choice for visitors, promising what they will find throughout your website when they dig deeper. “We help clients plan exciting, hassle-free trips within the United States, and provide a range of travel options to meet your needs and budget. Our site is filled with useful information to help you plan your next vacation.”
By delivering relevant content, you guide visitors through your website to your e-mail sign-up pages, and—ultimately—your services.
