Give me a berry’s leaf

so that I can cover my eyes and not see the flaws of history.

Give me a morphine injection, or a morsel of

hashish so that I forget all the lessons I’ve learned.

I take my breath empty handed

and with a broken wing like all Arab citizens.

I expose the day that was yesterday’s graveyard

rebelling over its details

sloughing the slogans off my back

that overwhelmed me since my first moment

on this earth.

Nothing can force me to stand by,

and the law, in any case,

is not my law.
