“So, what do you think?” Lilah asks as she stands on a podium assessing herself in what will be her wedding dress.

“Wow! I have never seen a more beautiful bride in my life.” I know people tell the bride that because maybe that’s what they feel they have to say, but I mean it. She looks stunning. It’s as though this mermaid dress has been made just for her.

She grins brightly in the mirror, gliding her hands up and down the white lace. The back’s fully exposed, down to the small of her back, and two pearl straps meet at the center between her shoulder blades. The train made of tulle and lace, swoops down the podium at four feet long. She fluffs up the dress and examines herself sideways just as the bridal attendant comes out from the back.

“Here comes your veil!” the young woman exclaims, walking up and placing it on Lilah’s head. I’d be excited too if I were making the commission she was. The dress is costing a small fortune, but Damian told Lilah to get whatever she liked, no amount was too big.

The veil flows along the train, the edge matching the lace of the dress perfectly. Lilah looks at me, still grinning. “Do you think he’ll like it?”

“Are you kidding? He’ll go crazy. And your boobs,” I whisper as the attendant walks away, “look insane!” The top is sweetheart with thin straps that hold her girls nicely.

“Yay!” she squeals. “I’m so happy. I can’t believe we’re actually getting married in a week and somehow managed to plan the wedding so fast.”

As soon as they got engaged, Lilah quickly picked the venue and then hired their in-house wedding coordinator, who helped her choose vendors in Hawaii, and the rest was history. The resort where the wedding will be held has a private outdoor ceremony, and a reception area, which gives exceptional views of the beach. February in Maui isn’t too hot, so the guests will be really comfortable.

I was supposed to throw Lilah a bachelorette party but early on into the wedding plans, both she and Damian said they didn’t want one.

Lilah steps off the podium. “Now it’s your turn to try on the dress.” She enters the dressing room as I make my way to the one adjoining hers. I haven’t seen my dress since I came in for alterations two weeks ago. My belly wasn’t as big when I first ordered it a few months ago, but it’s definitely bigger now, so it needed some magic.

I’m still not showing much, though I’m bigger than I was back then. Lilah told me to order whatever style dress I wanted as long as it’s in the color she liked, which worked for me. They had so many to choose from, and in the end, I picked a V-neck, flowy dress made of light pink chiffon.

The dress is waiting for me in the room as I walk in. Quickly taking off my clothes and heels, I step into it, zip up the side, and put my shoes back on.
