Chapter Ten

Estesius

If I was to say I wasn’t nervous, I would be lying. I never thought there would be a day I would have to kill another person. But I understood there were rare times. This was part of war; if I didn’t toughen up, I wouldn’t survive.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Fenris asked. I knew that he and Boyd were nervous about this mission.

“I don’t want to do it, but I know I need to.”

“Hera can go in alone,” Fenris argued.

“I know she can. But this is part of the war, Fenris. I hate that people have to die, but the fact is that it is part of the war.”

Fenris sighed and scrubbed his hand up over his face. “I fucking hate it.”

I smiled, reached out my hand, and stroked it over his arm. “I know, sweetheart, I know. I hate war, but when I agreed to come with Boyd, I knew there was a reason for it.”

Fenris pulled me into his arms and pressed his lips hard against mine. I moaned and thrust my hands through his hair as our tongues tangled. I was breathless when Fenris pulled back and looked down into my eyes.

“Be fucking safe and come home to me.”

I smiled. “If you kiss me like that again, there is nowhere I would rather be.”

Fenris chuckled and pressed his head to my forehead. “I love you.”

My eyes widened, and I gasped. “You’ve only known me for four days.”

Fenris smirked. “And yet I just know.”

“I love you too,” I responded.

“Are you ready?” Hera asked from behind me. I turned to face the goddess and nodded my head. The last two days had been spent learning how to use my powers. It was actually quite terrifying. My eyes didn’t just kill; they completely disintegrated.

“I’m ready,” I answered as I moved away from Fenris and pressed my lips quickly to Boyd’s. He was watching me with concern all over his face. We had a huge argument the night I’d agreed to go in. I knew he didn’t want me to go, but I couldn’t express it enough; this was war.

“Come home,” Boyd growled.

I nodded my head and smiled. “Always.”

I walked away with nervousness in my belly. “It will be fine,” Hera assured me, but I couldn’t be sure. We joined with Aithan, Iver, Negus, Posus, and Gumma; reaching out, I took hold of Hera and Gumma’s hand and felt the world tilt as we started to move through the atmosphere. When we stopped, I looked around to see that we were standing behind a large factory.

“The property is the next one over,” Aithan explained.

Hera nodded her head. “Estesius and I will go in first; the vampire team has reported two at the front, two at the back, and the rest inside the building. If we cause commotion at the front, that will chase the alphas out toward us. That will open the back for you to get in and get the kids out.”

Aithan nodded his head before turning to the kids.
