October 8th

6:12 A.M.

Julia surfaced slowly.

Her head felt like it was stuffed with cotton wool, but her memories were still intact.

Finding out Domino was the son of the head of the mafia who put a hit out on her, running through the woods, getting close to her friend’s house only to be snatched off the street. The gun in her side, the hard floor beneath her, the cold cuffs pinning her in place, burning pain in her back, and then Domino’s angry eyes above her.

After that everything was blank.

She had no idea where she was or if she’d been hurt while unconscious, and the unknowing left her feeling completely ripped open and vulnerable.

Doing her very best to shove away her fear, Julia tried to take stock of her body and surroundings. The pain in her back had subsided dramatically. She was on her stomach lying on something soft. It felt like a bed, and the thought sent a new wave of terror rushing through her.

Had she been violated?

It didn’t feel like she had any clothes on, she could feel air whispering across her bare skin, her legs and bottom covered by what felt like a sheet. There was no pain between her legs so she prayed that meant no one had touched her there, but even if they hadn’t it didn’t mean they wouldn’t.

Maybe they wanted her to be awake when they raped her.

Panic had her automatically trying to curl in on herself, but when she tried, she found her left wrist wouldn’t move.

When she lifted her head, Julia saw it was handcuffed to the bedpost. Whoever had done it and left her here had wrapped strips of material around the metal cuff as though to protect her wrist which was already bruised from her body jerking against her restraints when Scar had been torturing her.

Why would they do that?

It seemed so incongruent with everything she thought she knew about her situation. After all, she had been drugged and brought here against her will. She was obviously a prisoner since she had been cuffed to the bed, so why would they care whether or not she was in pain?

Domino had to be the one who had taken her. He’d been there right before she’d been knocked out. Was he trying to mess with her head? Because that’s exactly what he’d been doing ever since she met him.

Her poor heart couldn’t take more of this.

It knew Domino was the enemy, but it struggled to remember that fact. It wanted to believe that everything they had shared was real.

But it wasn’t.

It was lies.

Manipulation.

He was toying with her like a cat with a mouse, and sooner or later, he was going to pounce and devour her.

Julia whimpered as her heart rate accelerated and her pulse drummed a racing beat that felt like it reverberated through her entire body.

She couldn’t breathe.

Oxygen seemed to drain out of the room.

The fact that she couldn’t move made her feel claustrophobic.

Images flashed through her mind of being trapped in the rubble of the first explosion.
