Jamie and Molly disappeared between the stacks of books, leaving me alone in the small alcove we’d found Molly hiding in. I waited a couple moments, just in case they’d come back. Once I was sure they were on the other side of the bookstore, I stepped to the back of the alcove and pulled the old book off the shelf.

I held it for a long moment, just looking at the title and author printed on the cover. The book was far older than I was, older than Jamie and I put together for that matter. And yet, it was still in such amazing condition. The pages were yellowed, the binding a bit frayed, the ink slightly faded. But for a book that was over a hundred years old, it was in surprisingly good condition.

But, more than that, was the history held within the book’s pages. It most likely would never be a worldwide classic, studied by schools and students for centuries to come. But that didn’t mean it wasn’t important, didn’t mean that it wasn’t special to Molly.

Which meant it was special to me. Her eyes had lit up when she’d spoken about her grandmother, showing more life than I’d seen from her in the last day. There was no doubt in my mind how close the two of them were. And it sounded like her grandmother wouldn’t be around much longer.

God, that poor girl. She had so much going on in her life, had so much trouble just dumped into her lap. And even though Jamie and I had offered her a golden ticket, a magical get out of jail free card, she’d not jumped on it. She could’ve easily asked us to buy her the book, and we’d have done it without a second thought.

Hell, she could’ve asked us to buy the retirement home her grandmother in and we’d have written the check before she could finish her sentence.

But she hadn’t. She hadn’t asked for any of that, hadn’t asked for anything at all.

I closed my eyes for a moment and stood there, taking deep breaths, trying to work through everything in my mind. Molly was special, there was no doubt about that. She was someone I wanted to share my life with, someone I wanted to give the world to.

I hadn’t felt that way about anyone since Jamie. I’d enjoyed the various women we’d brought back to the bedroom together. But they had just been nights of fun. And even though Molly hadn’t joined us in bed together yet, my feelings for her were no less real.

I loved her. Did she love me? Did she love Jamie?

I wasn’t sure. It was too early to know how she felt about us. But I knew how I felt about her just as surely as I knew how I felt about Jamie.

Molly was the piece of my life I’d always been missing. She was what Jamie and I had been searching for since we’d truly discovered ourselves. Now we just needed to show that to her.
