CHAPTER 13

EMILIA

“Feeling a little the worse for wear this morning, Sweetheart?” Nico laughed when I stumbled into the kitchen late the next morning. My head was pounding and I was definitely going to throw up at some point, very soon.

I had rolled out of bed, in last night’s clothes, feeling like death. I needed a shower, but I couldn’t face it, so instead I’d pulled off the dress and changed into yoga pants and a t-shirt, then gone in search of coffee and aspirin before my head exploded.

“Don’t shout, please Nico!” I whispered, literally ready to burst into tears.

“I’m only talking at the normal volume.” He chuckled. “Drinking’s not seeming so fun now, is it?”

“Just talk quieter, please. My head hurts so bad.” I whimpered.

“I’m sorry, Tesoro. I’m being cruel. Sit down I’ll find you some pills and make some coffee, ok?” He said more gently.

“You’re not mad at me?” I asked as I sat at the counter with great relief.

“I’m not happy that Ty lied about where you were, but it’s up to you where you go and what you do, Mia. You’re an adult. I just want you to be safe.”

“I know. I’m sorry. I’ll make sure to text you where we are next time.” I agreed.

“Thank you.” He nodded and handed me two tablets and a bottle of water. “Drink as much as you can. It will help.”

I did as he said, taking the tablets and gulping down over half of the bottle of water. He had just handed me a steaming cup of coffee when the door to the apartment burst open and Ty walked in looking as fresh as a freaking daisy!

“Good morning, beautiful people!” He announced way too loudly, and I actually held my head to try and calm the pain.

“Tyler, shut the hell up!” I growled annoyed to see him so bright and happy. He was dressed in jeans and a blue sweater, his hair still wet from the shower. It was sickening how together he was. “Why the hell aren’t you dying too?” I demanded. He had been more drunk than me the night before.

“Experience. I have been partying for a very long time, and I know all the tricks to stop hangovers.”

“Well thanks so much for sharing.” I grumbled as I stirred creamer into my coffee.

“Mia’s not doing too well this morning.” Nico explained, like Ty couldn’t already tell!

“Well you need to rally, my little warrior princess, because there’s a showing of the first ‘Avengers’ at the multiplex this afternoon and we are going.”

“Nope. No way I am leaving this apartment today.”

“And is this a real trip to the movies, or another code for something I’m not privy to?” Nico asked as he crossed his arms over his chest and glared at Tyler.

“Uh, yeah. I’m sorry about that Nic. I just wanted to take her out, and I didn’t think you’d let her go.” Ty sounded nervous as he spoke and I’d have felt bad if I weren’t so annoyed he wasn’t suffering that morning like I was.
