The Tin Drum was in the middle of its lunchtime rush, which meant four old lags playing dominoes in one corner, a couple of women drinking port and laughing with a noise like gravel on a galvanised roof, and a bunch of students getting slowly legless in a booth at the far end as evidenced by periodic chants of, “Get it down, you Thulu warrior”. Kylah felt a little smile touch her lips. She remembered playing drinking games at lunchtimes. Great idea at the time. Not so great when you remembered not handing in the term paper by your four o’clock deadline and thinking it was a brilliant idea to rewrite the discussion again there and then with the help of all your wonderful, completely pissed mates. Ah, the joys of feckless youth.
