He looked down. Wanda was playing conkers with the squirrel-dragon. Theo sighed as he saw a teacher hold up their scorecard.

Zero points for Dragon Towers.

Maeve, Felix and Jasmeet gazed up at Theo in the tree.

‘Need any help?’ said Felix.

‘Hmm? Me? No, I’m just … hanging out,’ Theo said, trying to look cool and failing. ‘Although maybe yeah, I’m kind of bored now? Thanks.’

Shimmer and Delilah flew up to the branch and grabbed him by the ankles. As the two dragons lowered Theo to the ground, he looked around.

‘Where’s Wanda?’ he asked.

‘Chasing a butterfly over near the running track,’ said Maeve. ‘That should keep her out of trouble.’

‘Don’t count on it,’ said Theo.

They found the central scoreboard, which showed how many points each school had earned for winning their events.

‘No way!’ Jasmeet said loudly. ‘Dragon Towers is SO behind! We need loads more points to beat Flaming Heights!’

‘We’re only halfway through,’ Theo pointed out. ‘Don’t worry, there are loads of sports left to try.’

‘Yeah, as long as we don’t let Wanda do them,’ said Jasmeet, laughing. She grabbed Zen by the claw. ‘Ooh, axe-throwing! Come on!’

‘That was a bit harsh,’ Maeve said as Jas and Zen ran off.

Theo watched as Wanda ran along the running track after a butterfly, flapping her wings. ‘I guess,’ he said. ‘Wanda is just …’

‘The least competitive dragon in history?’ said Maeve, then she smiled. ‘And you wouldn’t have it any other way!’

Maeve was right. His dragon was rubbish at sports, but Wanda had a heart of gold and that’s why Theo loved her.

‘Anyway, it’s the taking part that counts,’ he said bravely. ‘Right?’

‘Yeah, of course,’ Maeve said. ‘Just don’t tell that to the Fireballers.’

Theo laughed. There was still time for them to find their Sports thing.

Then Wanda followed the butterfly into a bin and got stuck so he went to rescue her.
