Ch. 19

Lying on his side in the grass, looking as if he could go to sleep at any moment, Karri watches Mona as she practices with her nunchucks.

“You pretty and strong lady,” Karri states bluntly, smiling.

Mona continues her training while responding with a smirk, “If you’re trying to make a pass at me, forget about it.”

“Just saying,” Karri says as he sits up, “Besides, Wynyard prettier.”

“He is kind of cute, but you can have him. He’s a little too stuffy, wincey and whiny for my tastes.”

“Karri think that cute. Wynyard even cuter when mad.”

“If you say so, frankly I want to just shake him like a ragdoll.”

Karri lets out an uproarious laugh, stating, “Karri understand. Karri also know Wynyard like Karri…very much.”

“Oh really?” asks Mona, her voice filled with puzzlement and intrigue.

“Yes. Wynyard get nervous around Karri. Heart beat fast. Face red.”

“I just thought he was embarrassed because you couldn’t keep your hands off of him on our way to the spring.”

Karri thinks for a moment and nods, answering, “That too, maybe.”

Suddenly, Karri’s sensitive ears pick up a horse drawn carriage galloping in the distance. He opens his eyes and sees that a figure pulling the reins is a strange, squat, man-shaped being with green warty skin and clad in black leather armor.

“What are you looking at?” Mona asks as she ceases her training, looking in the direction Karri is facing. She can see the carriage and horse, but cannot quite make out the figure pulling the reins.

“I wonder what they’re doing out here,” Mona says to her loinclothed companion.

“Trolls,” Karri responds. “Karri think up to no good.”

The two see the carriage stop many yards away, two occupants exiting while carrying a humanoid figure and tossing it to the ground before rushing back inside. Afterwards, the carriage drives away into the distance.

With a look of concern on his face, Karri stands on all fours and sprints swiftly towards where the trolls dumped their cargo.

“What are you doing?” Mona asks Karri, running to catch up with the feral man, “We’re supposed to guard the carriage!”

“Karri bring naked person to carriage,” explains Karri as he runs like an untamed beast.

“Oh, okay…wait, naked?”

Mona and Karri finally arrive where the unclothed figure lays, his arms bound behind him by iron shackles, a blindfold across his eyes.

“Elf!” Karri shouts, helping the wobbly figure to his feet. “You okay?”

“Elf?” asks Mona in utter perplexity. “I thought those were just in fairy tales.”

“Hey!” the elf slurs as he stumbles around blindly. “You’re a fairy tale, bitch…sorry, just kidding, kidding. I-I think…could you pull this thing from my eyes?”

Mona, not taking any of the elf’s tomfoolery, pulls the blindfold back from the elf’s eyes and lets it snap back and smack the elf in the face, the elf fumbling and falling backwards onto his ass while cackling hysterically.

“I just fell on my butt!” the elf giggles like a lunatic before belching.

“Are you sure you’re not a fairy?” Mona asks the oddly giddy elf, “You have antennas, and aren’t
