Chapter 51
Maggie left the Probation office with a newfound vigour. On her way back to the train station she called Bethany. âHiya. I wondered if you could do me a favour?â
âFire away.â
âCan you pull up the licence copies for the following people?â She rattled off the names provided by Probation in a hushed tone. âIâll explain everything when I get back to the office.â
âYouâre coming back here? Wouldnât it be easier to finish work out of Markston station? I can email you the documents.â
âAs great as that sounds, I may need to speak to Nathan, so itâs probably easier if I just come back. Everything I need is to hand and it will save me from hassling you every five minutes.â
âThen do come back! Iâm busy enough as it is. By the way, Kat and I spoke to that witness, Oliver. He has a solid alibi for the murder but he was, erm ⦠very enthusiastic about being interviewed, so I can see why you had some concerns.â
Maggie could hear the smile in Bethanyâs voice.
âGreat. At least thatâs one off the list, though Iâd rather have a solid person of interest. Anyway, Iâll see you soon. One final thing â can you ask Nathan to look up Ian McNally on ViSOR. Tell him Iâll explain when I get in as I donât want to say too much over the phone.â She looked around the station.
Only certain individuals could access and update ViSOR. Maggie had undertaken the relevant training, but she wanted the information to hand when she arrived and figured Nathan wouldnât mind. He seemed to enjoy the geeky side of policing and now that he was a DS and spent a lot of time at meetings or strategizing, any time he could dip his toe in an investigation, he did.
She grabbed a coffee while she waited for the train and gave PC Mark Fielding at the DAHU a call. âHey, itâs Maggie. How are you?â
âHey stranger. All good here. Busy but probably not as crazy as it is with you. Kate was filling us in on some things, and donât worry, she was vague as hell so all I really grasped was that you lot are up against it. What can I do for you?â
âOne day Iâll fill you in properly but as a side note, just keep your eye on Kate for me, OK? I just get worried sheâs internalizing everything and she needs to be sharp, not distracted.â
âWell thatâs a bit cryptic, but OK. What was the reason you called then?â
âYeah, sorry. I was just at Markston Probation and they highlighted a case which sounded pretty concerning. I think theyâre going to refer him to the DAHU, but I wondered if he was on your radar already? His name isâ, she looked around to make sure no one was in earshot, âOscar Reed and I wondered if there was any intelligence on him that you could share?â
âStand by.â
Maggie waited while Mark looked up the information on the database.
