Rynn tried to follow Bill through the door, but he insisted on holding it for her, so she was the first one in.

When she entered she couldn't believe her eyes. Joseph, Michael, and Walter were talking together and Joseph seemed to have lost his misgivings about Michael.

“Michael,” Bill said, “Rynn tells me we've got more work to do?”

Michael broke away from the other two wizards and came over.

“Yes, we do. That group that was sponsoring the troublemakers we had so far is coming en masse.”

“Rynn said something about a more powerful wizard with them? Is that going to give you any trouble?” Bill asked.

Michael paused for a moment, looking thoughtful.

“What did you tell him Rynn?” he sent.

“I almost slipped up and mentioned the Council, but I recovered and just told him he's part of a group of wizards,” she replied.

“I don't think so,” Michael said. “That more powerful wizard is part of a group that oversees the Wizard Corps, which is the group on its way here. I don't think he'll be a problem, even if he chooses to participate in the fight. He's not the type to want to get his hands dirty taking care of things himself.”

“He won't be a problem if he does though?”

“More powerful is a relative term here. He's part of a group that thinks they're in charge, think of them like politicians. You never get the really powerful people as politicians, they always prefer to be behind the scenes. Look at before things fell apart, people like Buffet, Gates, Musk; none of these guys went for politician, but they were the real movers and shakers. Think of it that way. This guy will be powerful enough to hold his position, but if he were really powerful he wouldn't be a politician.”

“Okay, so you can handle him. What about fallout from that if you have to? We'll have a bunch of non-wizards there fighting. They wouldn't be able to defend from anything that came their way out of the fight, would they?”

“I'm already working on beefing up the physical defenses they'll be using. I'll put some magical protection on there as well before the fight starts.”

“Good, in that case, when will you need us up there?”

“We don't have the exact time line yet. We just know they started moving earlier today. We'll need to scout them out and make some estimates. I think they're using the roads so they'll have to stop a few times to clear them out. Lots of stranded vehicles and a few roadblocks people put up. That'll delay them some, but two days should be plenty of time. I'd like the militia up there tomorrow and, if they're willing, we can bunk them somewhere up there overnight. I'll provide meals and shelter.”

“Well, in that case, I'd better get—”

Bill was interrupted by Andrew bursting in through the door.

“Michael, are you here?” he called.

“What is it dad?” Michael said, slightly unnerved by his father's abrupt entrance.

“You gotta come see. The prototype works!” Andrew said.
