Lyric

I've had the worst hangover ever for the last two days, and now, when I'm finally starting to feel better, I have a text from Melody. I don't really want to open it. It's not like we're on the best terms right now.

Still, my curiosity gets the better of me, and I tap on the message and have to read it twice to make sure I'm not misunderstanding.

Link for access. Covington Comms left a backdoor in their security protocol that made this a lot easier. I'm assuming they are backing up his files for bribery or something. Lots of evidence of him abusing interns. Nothing on Alyssa yet. Log in if you need it.

The message is followed by a link, along with a username and password. I tap on the link, and the website we use for sharing pops up. After I sign in, it directs me to a page that looks almost like a virtual machine—like a computer within a computer.

I send her a thumbs up back. After a moment's thought, I add a thank you. Maybe if I'm nicer to her we can move past whatever this rough patch is. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.

There's no way I can start looking through stuff on my phone when there's so much to get through, so I grab my laptop and a snack and settle in. A few clicks later, and I see what Melody means. There's very little in terms of documentation, just what someone would expect from a law firm, but there's a folder specifically for Covington Communications and Security, Thayer's dad's company.

Within that folder, there are multiple sub-folders, but there's something weird about each of them. There’s file inside each that doesn't seem to belong, and yet, the file is in every folder I look through. The file extension isn't familiar to me, either.

When I click on it, it asks me for a login for Covington Communications, which is suspicious. If these files exist within the Kingsley Law system, then why would they need the log in for a different company?

I log in using the info Mel gave me and see a replica of the system I was just in. Only these folders are full of stuff. Video files, audio files, regular stuff I would expect to find.

When I explore a little, moving through the folders, I run across one labeled as security feeds. Within that, there are different rooms listed as folders. Including bathrooms. Gross.

The one I'm most interested in is the one labeled Kingsley Office. Obviously, that could refer to the entire building, but with how specific the other names are, I'm more inclined to think this is actually Richard Kingsley's office.

When I click into the folder, I just find video files at first, but when I scroll far enough back, I find there are some that are just audio as well. I go back to the top, which is the most recent, and after looking at the file names, I find one that's labeled as the day of my interview.
