Luther and Calvin were not the only reformers active in this period. Ulrich Zwingli, a Swiss reformer, was a lot like Luther: He also was a member of the clergy until he left out of protest, and he claims to have come to the same conclusions as Luther did independent of Luther. Zwingli himself was a back-to-basics reformer, eliminating music and changing the liturgy. However, some of his followers rejected the practice of baptizing infants, and actually rebaptized their adherents, gaining the name the Anabaptists as a result. Zwingli was not pleased with where the Anabaptists had gone with their practices and persecuted them from his post as head of the Reformed Church in Zurich. John Knox, also a former clergyman, similarly led Protestant reforms in Scotland.
