Not all German Nazis failed to return to Ireland following the war. Among them, and most relevant to a spirit of welcome to neo-Nazis in the 1950s was Helmut Ewald Clissmann. Established in 1949 by him and his wife, the firm of HE Clissmann continues to offer a range of services to the pharmaceutical industry including storage and distribution. According to the Clissmann 2020 promotion, âOur principal client is Bayer Ltd., the Irish subsidiary of Bayer AG. Our relationship with Bayer grew from our relationship with Schering since 1950.â As mentioned, records of the Holocaust prove that Schering pharmaceuticals lurked in the shadows of the diabolical experiments on victims of the Nazi regime.
To summarize, Clissmann was a close associate of Veesenmayer, who was subordinate to Kaltenbrunner, who was Otto Skorzenyâs immediate superior. Can there be any question that Helmut Clissmann knew Otto Skorzeny, and that both knew Brady and Stringer, in the late 1950s when Otto and Ilseâs intention to purchase property and spend extended time in Ireland was made public? While the entire guest list for their welcome party at Portmarnock is not readily found, nor is a complete record of the later comings and goings at Martinstown House, it can be deduced that if Helmut and Budge Clissmann were not among those in the milieu known publicly, there would have been a significant reason.
INDUSTRIOUS GERMANS IN IRELAND
German pencil manufacturer Faber-Castell invested in a major production plant in Fermoy, Co. Cork, not far from Ileclash purchased by the Mosleys. After the Second World War, Count Roland of the Faber-Castell dynasty set about reacquiring the foreign subsidiaries that had been confiscated and founded new sales organizations and factories in Ireland, Austria, Argentina, Peru, and Australia. With the exception of Australia, Count Roland appears to have been most comfortable operating within Fascist regimes.
As author Martin Lee tells us, Kluf [a Waffen SS veteran identified in a US State Department report only by the code name] disclosed âthe existence of a secret international organization composed of former SS officers and partially funded by the Soviets [and who were] supposed to work with the Russians against the Western orbit.â Kluf pegged Skorzeny as an important figure in this underground operation. . . . In addition, Kluf explained, this international neo-Nazi network received funds from German industry. He specifically identified Countess Faber-Castell as an important backer. An SRP supporter funding the partyâs brief heyday, Countess Faber-Castell hid Otto Ernst Remer in her Bavarian chalet before he fled to Egypt. Kluf told the State Department that Remer had âalso been cooperating with the Russians.â
Of note, Dan Burros of the American Nazi Party had in his possession evidence of direct correspondence with Otto Remer in the early 1960s, suggesting that Burros was supplying propaganda material to Remer while he was based in Oran, Algeria. At the same time, American fascist H. Keith Thompson, who would represent Marguerite Oswald in the months following her sonâs murder, lobbied for Remerâs exoneration for years following the war. Dan Burrosâs contact information was found in Lee Oswaldâs address book.
