The Caregiver

The Caregiver is always striving for positive energy. You are compassionate and self-sacrificing, and usually seen as the Altruist, the Saint, and the Good Parent. You dedicate much of your life to caring for others, and fear not being appreciated or being taken advantage of for all that you do. The shadow side is the Wounded Healer; they’re those who must suffer the wounds of life to understand it. Wounded Healers fall into the mindset of victim consciousness and believe no one cares about them.

The Caregiver archetype can speak through symbols such as the shaman, the peace sign, angels, your pet, the word “mother,” and the colors blue and green. Dolphins can also symbolize Caregivers. Greek legends state that dolphins were responsible for carrying the souls of the dead to the Islands of the Blessed. Tattoos that look like a bullseye target, arrows, and the number 0, placed on the hands or chest, are some examples that can symbolically show the archetype for the Wounded Healer.

Tattoos near the heart and on the hands may be significant of how you care and the shadow of how you hurt. Some people who have overcome an addiction or condition may symbolically tattoo a word or message as a reminder to care for themselves.
