CHAPTER FIVE

LUNA

She shot back the cinnamon whiskey and raised her finger for another. She was going to need all the help she could get. Four times Luna attempted to turn back and walk home. She couldn’t do that to the guys though. This was their tradition. Drink, sing badly, drink, play pool, and repeat. Most of the time, she ended up being a great wing woman for them. No, she couldn’t leave them hanging. It was too late to cancel, anyway. She shot back the second one as soon as Marty had set it in front of her.

The old angel just shook his head and took the empty glasses away from her. “You gonna sip something, darlin’? Or do I need to just keep them coming.”

She groaned. “Whiskey and coke.” She blew out a breath. “Remind me to drink water after this.”

“Of course.” He nodded as he moved to fix her drink.

“Make that a double!” She pleaded, and he shook his head as he grabbed a larger glass.

She thanked him as she grabbed the glass and made her way to the back corner table next to the pool table. It was the usual spot. Most of the time they beat her there, but she knew if she didn’t get here early, she would chicken out.

Luna didn’t bother waiting for them as she grabbed the folder to pick a song. She needed to do something, or she was going to end up leaving. She wasn’t the best singer, but she could carry a tune when her heart was in it. Her eyes stopped on Consequences. That’s the one. She turned in her request and sipped at her drink. A quick glance at her phone and she knew they’d be here any minute.

She couldn’t imagine them leaving him behind. It had only been a few hours since she left his embrace and she already missed it. Oh yeah, she was definitely drinking too much tonight.

Her wolf perked up before she smelled him. The tune of her song choice started. Talk about perfect timing. She downed the rest of her drink before stepping onto the stage and leaning in toward the microphone.

She closed her eyes for a bit as she lost herself in the music. She didn’t have to open her eyes to know they were all at the bar, but watching her. When she opened her eyes, they immediately landed on Elijah’s.

She lost herself in the song as they walked to the table. She attempted to look away, but her eyes kept finding his. It was hard with this song. They all knew the truth behind some of the words she sang.

Loving him had consequences.

When the song ended, the few patrons clapped and she walked back to the table as Marty brought her a glass of water and another drink. “Water first.” He nodded. She smiled and thanked him.

She slid into her seat, grabbed her water, and started chugging.

“Thirsty?” Liam laughed.

She nodded as she finished off the glass, then took a sip of her whiskey and coke.
