Right: This bronze shield, with its swirling designs and studs of red glass paste, shows the superb workmanship of the Celts. Its ornamentation suggests that the shield was kept just for ceremonies.

Deach and Sucrifice

Over the years, well-preserved bodies from Celtic times have been found in peat bogs. Some of them have shown signs of human sacrifice. For example, in 1984 a male body was found in a bog at Lindow Moss near Manchester in England. It was discovered that Lindow Man, as he was called, had died from horrific wounds.
