CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Jenna
A few minutes later Jenna found herself alone with her family. A part of her wanted to process Anita's death. But something said 'there'll be time for that later.' And getting lost in the memories and emotions wasn't going to help save Tiffany and Hudson.
"Okay, family, now that they are all gone, why didn't you call me?"
"Because you left for the weekend without us and wouldn't listen. What kind of a relationship do we have if you don't believe me when I tell you my psychic skills are sending me impressions?"
Sometimes. No, most of the time. BMC could be so infuriating when he was right. "Alright, I admit, I did not listen to you and I should have." BMC stared at her. And stared at her. "Ok, BMC, I was wrong. I should not have doubted you."
She broke eye contact with BMC and turned to face her father. "Jarvice, you should have known better than to come back here."
"I had no choice. When someone is in danger, we act."
"That motto almost got us both killed last time."
"Can't help it. It's been my motto since I was a child. It's how I met your mother."
"And look how well that turned out," Jenna said pain welling up inside her.
"If I had not met your mother, I would not have you. I have never regretted marrying her."
He continued. "As for my motto, when someone needs help, you help. End of discussion." His voice lowered. "Besides if I'd told you, you would have turned around and I wanted you to enjoy yourself."
"You told me not to go."
"I did. But I didn't want to be the person who ruined your weekend. If it wasn't going to work between you and Mark, I wanted it to be your decision. I did not want to interfere. I just got you back. I don't want you to hate me again. It took too long to repair our relationship. I don't have that many years left. You are the best thing in my life."
Tears welled in her eyes. He loved her. She knew that. It was just so hard to put aside all the years of neglect and resentment and have a real father-daughter relationship, but then did anyone really have the ideal father-daughter relationship. Maybe her idea of that relationship was just a fantasy.
She couldn't think about that right now.
"Okay, Bugs, you're next. These two always get into trouble. You're supposed to be the rational one of the bunch."
He laid down and put his paws across his forehead and whimpered.
"In Bugsy's defense, he wanted to call you. I refused," Jarvice said.
She scratched Bugsy's head. "Bugsy, we are going to have to teach you to talk so you can call when these two act up."
Bugsy panted and wiggled his butt.
"He doesn't like that idea," BMC said.
So typical. "BMC, you're lying. You just don't want to share the spotlight with him."
BMC flipped his tail. "Whatever, can we get back to finding Hudson?"
"Sure! Are you getting any other visions?"
The cat flipped his tail again and looked at Jarvice.
