Humans aren’t the only ones suffering from anxiety and bodily pain. Our four-legged friends can become anxious over loud noises or struggle to walk due to arthritis and stiff joints. The good news is that CBD can be just as helpful for dogs and cats as it is for us. Research on dogs has shown that CBD can reduce swelling and the frequency of seizures. For dogs and cats, we recommend up to five milligrams for every ten pounds of weight. Of course, you should consult with your veterinarian before administering CBD, especially for pets already on any medications.

Our own dog (pictured on the following pages) is an Australian Shepherd mix. As intelligent as she is, a single beeping noise sends her shivering into the closet. To keep her calm in stressful situations—travel, trips to the vet, facing the dreaded vacuum—we give her a dose of twenty-five milligrams of CBD oil about thirty minutes beforehand. Daily, we add a few drops (five milligrams) to her breakfast and dinner. We’ve seen noticeably lower levels in her anxiety in new situations, and improved flexibility and recovery time after hours of Frisbee. Even her fur seems healthier and shinier. Plus, she loves the taste!
