Ash felt both immense satisfaction and immense relief as they left the restaurant. He'd wowed her. He also, he had to admit, had been utterly wowed by her as well. More than that, he'd been slain by her. He'd been opened by her. This woman was beyond remarkable. She was a treasure he hadn't known he needed.
Once they were back inside the Vanquish, Teagan stroked the buttery soft leather seats, a smile on her face making her already luscious lips all the more enticing. Then she took a breath, started to speak, stopped, and took another breath.
Ash steered the sleek car out of the circular drive, nodding a thank you toward Eamon from where he stood to see them off. Glancing at Teagan, he firmly said, "Whatever it is, say it. Dinner wasn't good enough?" He made his tone teasing. He watched with appreciation as the smile spread on her succulent mouth. âYou're upset there was no background music? Ah,â he snapped his fingers with one hand, âI know. I wasn't enough of a gentleman."
There. Once again, the rich peal of her laughter filled the car. That made Ash smile like a ridiculously puffed up peacock. He was the one responsible for that amazing sound. He liked that. A lot.
Teagan shook her head, a smile still lighting her features. "No, it's been an amazing evening. The best one of my life," she added, tossing a quick, more serious look at him. Shyness edged her expression now as she watched him to see what his reaction would be.
He nodded back just as seriously. "You might not believe me, Teagan,â he said quietly, âbut it was the same for me. However, that's not what you wanted to tell me, was it?â
He adored the sweet flush on her face as she admitted, "No, that wasn't what I wanted to say. Justâah, this is going to sound pathetic and geeky.â She flapped her hands, drawing his attention to her long fingers. As his mind imagined them touching him, he firmly directed himself to focus on something else. Anything else, before he entirely threw caution to the wind and pulled her body to his.
Teagan lightly cleared her throat and went on. âThe wine is making me do it." Her flush was deeper now. She rushed out her next words. "It's just thatâa week ago I didn't know you existed, and now," she paused again. This time, her hands nervously drummed on her thighs.
Ash let the car idle in the driveway before turning into the street. Knowing no one was trying to get out behind them, Ash took a bold chance. Reaching out to her chin with his fingers, he gently turned her head toward him. He skin was unbearably soft. So tempting. Chocolate dark eyes met his. âAnd now?" he said quietly, holding her gaze fast with his.
She swallowed again. Softly, the words tumbled out of her mouth. "And now, there's one person in the world who can make me feel so special. So interesting, even fascinating.
