Sean didn’t move. Mark smiled shyly as he ventured closer to him.

‘C’mon, you two,’ Papa Tim encouraged. ‘You’re allowed to have fun. You’re allowed to play.’

Mark put his hands on Sean’s shoulders and gently pushed him back.

‘Go for it, Sean!’ Apihana cheered, thinking Sean might as well make the most of the opportunity to have a scrap with Mark.

Sean put his hands out and pushed back at Mark. Mark pushed again and Sean returned the push. The rest of the class laughed. Mark also chuckled, which made Sean relax and smile. Soon the two of them were entangled, rolling about on the mats just as Colin and Manase had done before them. Sean couldn’t believe it — Mark was being careful.

The longer the wrestle went on, the more the boys relaxed and enjoyed themselves. Sean went harder and really started to give Mark a tough match. The two boys laughed as they tried to pin one another.

Sean twisted and turned and eventually had Mark pinned beneath him, but Mark just laughed, reached out and grabbed Sean’s foot. Mark hugged the foot tight and tickled the sole. Sean burst into laughter and struggled to get free.

Now even Papa Tim was laughing. The boys wrestled a little longer then Papa Tim asked them to stop.

‘That was great, you two,’ he said. ‘You both kept safe and looked after each other. I can obviously trust you.’

Sean couldn’t believe it. He had just wrestled Mark and had fun. He moved off the mats and sat down beside Ravanesh.

‘Way to go,’ said Ravanesh, giving Sean a big smile and a thumbs up.

Mark went over and sat beside Papa Tim. He looked across the mats at Sean.

‘Cool, eh?’ he said.

Sean nodded.
