MRS. MAGNUSSON PLANNED Sunday as a lazy day, so we’re able to hang out on the beach or at the pool all day, breaking only to take naps or eat meals.

After a late lunch, Leo and I are getting settled into a private cabana at the beach. It’s equipped with a comfortable double lounge with cushions and a drink cooler and curtains that can be pulled all the way.

I’ve never been to the beach like this before. It’s a surreal experience. I’m wearing a cute red two-piece. Only moderately revealing, but I still feel ridiculously sexy as I stretch out on the lounge. The breeze is perfect and so is the shade from the cabana since my fair skin doesn’t do well with too much direct sun.

I smile up at Leo, who’s pulling his T-shirt off over his head, mussing his hair in the process.

“I’m going to take a swim,” he says, leaning over to see me better. “You want to come?”

“Not right now. I’m full from lunch and too comfortable to get wet. You shouldn’t do any heavy swimming right now after that meal.”

“I’m not going to do a lot of swimming. Just get wet. I won’t be long.”

“Take your time. I’m going to take a nap.”

I’ve never once fallen asleep on the beach, but I’ve also never been so comfortable. I smooth my hair and settle my sunglasses and then close my eyes and relax.

So far, I haven’t had a single complaint about the day, except it’s passing too fast.

Leo is only in the water for about ten minutes. When he returns, he flings some water on me—enough to be his normal obnoxious self but not enough for me to get upset about. Then he dries off and stretches out on the lounge beside me.

“How’s the nap going?” he asks, turning his head toward me. His face is about three inches away from mine.

“It had barely gotten started before you flung water all over me.” I wipe a stray drop from my belly with a disapproving frown. “What if I was asleep?”

“I knew you weren’t asleep.”

“How did you know that? You can’t see my eyes behind the sunglasses.”

“I’ve seen you when you sleep every night for more than a week now. I know when you’re asleep.”

“How do you know?”

He just gives me a smug smile as he puts on his own sunglasses.

With a faint snarl, I prompt, “How?”

“Maybe you snore.”

“I do not snore.” I’m pretty sure this is true, but I still add after a moment, “Do I?”

“No,” he admits with a chuckle. “You don’t snore. But you do clutch the blankets when you sleep.”

“What?”

“You clutch the blankets.” He takes the end of his towel and lays it over my stomach and then positions my hand on top of it. Then he curls my fingers into the fabric in a tight clench. “Like that. Always with your right hand and not your left. Like you’re hanging on in your sleep.”

My mouth falls open slightly. “I don’t do that.”

“Yes, you do.
