CHAPTER 16

THE LEARNING CURVE

Later that day, Charles, Theo, Nicolias and Co entered the factory of Tool & Dye. They stood on the balcony watching Elizabeth’s work force.

The group were briefed on the roles they would play. Nicolias pointed out two ladies. “We’ll start with those as a trial run. Show the group how things work.”

“Why these women?” asked Charles, intrigued and eager to learn.

Nicolias smiled. “Come, I’ll show you.”

The men followed Nicolias and stood next to a young woman called Josie. She had long, flowing blonde hair and large emerald green eyes, rather pretty, thought Charles. The men could sense her unhappiness. Standing close by was a rather plump older woman called Linda. She had the air of an underfed grizzly about her. Pointing to her aura, Nicolias indicated its dark colour and the spirals of black energy that pointed outward.

“Look,” he said, rather amused, “this is negative energy, created by this woman’s thoughts; jealousy waiting to find its target. This woman is aware of the girl’s vulnerability, and the temptation to kick her when she’s down is great, spite and resentment waiting to spill over; that’s where we come in. Now, listen to her thoughts, thoughts that can be harnessed and strengthened.”

Both Charles and Theo concentrated on Linda and picked up what was rattling in her head. She was secretly smiling to herself, enjoying the stress and crestfallen demeanour of the younger woman.

Ha… look at her, Miss High and Mighty, silly cow, thought she was the bee’s knees. It takes more than a pretty face and sweet smile to hang onto a man. She got what she deserved; she’ll get no sympathy off me. She studied Josie through narrowed eyes and looked her up and down critically. However, her guts tightened as she reluctantly observed her petite figure and graceful manner. A hot tide of jealously ripped through her and her lips pressed together in a straight line as she pushed back the urge to let rip, not willing to show her true colours.

Nicolias waved a hand and beckoned toward one of the group that accompanied them. He moved close to Linda, invading her aura, and began whispering within her mind in an attempt to influence her actions. She was easy prey; her bad attitude was like a magnet that invited him in. He repeated over and over again, You’re not so high and mighty now, are you? My Mary’s met a nice chappy, happy as a lark she is.

As Linda worked on her designated station, thoughts of spite began to build in her mind. She felt agitated and her dislike for this girl was fermenting in her belly, waiting to escape like poison gas. Biding her time, she watched Josie working. She envisaged words that would cut through her like a knife.

Josie was a sweet girl at heart; she always had a smile for those she worked with. Recently, however, she was consumed with thoughts of despair and lost love. Looking at her watch, she saw it was 10:30am and wondered how she would get through the day without breaking down.
