“Feels kind of weird sitting in a diner with a million-dollar ring in my pocket,” Brock whispered to Olivia. She smiled. It certainly wasn’t something she thought they would ever do—meeting one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Olivia was anxious about seeing Miranda again, wondering whether she would recall their first meeting at all. She didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable, and she didn’t want her to feel like she had only helped her for information. Yes, she didn’t turn Miranda away when she started telling her everything she needed to know, but Olivia would never abandon a woman in need. She would’ve helped her regardless, and she didn’t want Miranda to believe otherwise.

Miranda had chosen the location herself. It was a sweet little bistro tucked away in Brentwood that didn’t have many customers. Apparently, she had used it before as a place to hide away from prying eyes. Olivia and Brock had been waiting almost an hour there, but Olivia was sure that it wasn’t going to be easy for Miranda to get out of her home unnoticed, given the paparazzi gathered outside her home. She was willing to be patient if this got them the information they desperately needed.

Eventually, when Brock was onto his second cup of coffee, a woman walked in through the door. She was like a ghost of the Miranda Olivia had seen the other night. She was pale, not wearing makeup, her hair limp. A pair of large sunglasses were placed over her eyes, and she was dressed in dreary clothing. She certainly understood how to make herself disappear, to blend in to society despite her fame. She spoke quietly with the waiter, who pointed at Olivia and Brock’s booth to direct Miranda. She walked over slowly, her face devoid of emotion as she slid onto the bench opposite Olivia and Brock.

“Thank you for meeting with me,” she said stoically, taking off her glasses. Her eyes were ringed with dark circles. Clearly, she’d had a few sleepless nights. “I’m Miranda.”

“I’m Olivia, and this is my partner Brock. I… I’m not sure if you remember…”

“I do, now that I see you here,” Miranda said, eyeing Olivia anxiously. “You were sent to spy on me?”

“I assure that my intentions were good, Miranda. We were at the party to investigate Landon’s disappearance. But I saw a woman in need and wanted to help. The rest…”

“It’s alright. You didn’t force me to spill my guts to a stranger,” Miranda said with a bitter chuckle. “I don’t recall everything I told you… but I suspect you already know much more about me than you should. So, I see no harm in telling you the rest.”

“We’re grateful for your cooperation,” Brock said. “We know that your relationship with your ex-husband is… complicated.”

Miranda sighed. “Yes, that does tend to be the way with divorce. I can’t say Landon is my favorite person, but I do want him found. It’s a tricky business hating someone you once loved. Part of
