Chapter 4

Jetty

Who the hell did this dickhead think he was talking to? I glanced down at Niles’ outstretched hand where he dangled his keys...at me.

“Here you go.” He jingled them impatiently, eyeing me like a bug under his shoe.

I wanted to knock the condescending expression right off his unfortunately handsome face, but Willowhope Manor was my man’s business, so I contained myself. As I opened my mouth to answer him, Chance said, “Actually, Jetty doesn’t work here. He’s my boyfriend, but if you give me just a minute, I’ll go out and get your luggage.”

Fuck that. Technically, Chance had contracted with my company for repairs and renovations, so I kind of worked here. Besides, there was no way I’d let Chance wait on this cocky piece of work. He’d end up bossing my man around all week. “Nope, I’ll be happy to do it.” Resisting the urge to snatch the keys from his hands, I plastered the standard customer-service smile when dealing with a douche on my face and reached my hand out for him to drop them in my palm. Which he did with a scowl.

“Make sure you don’t scuff my luggage.”

Ignoring him, I dropped a kiss on Chance’s forehead. He tilted his head back, and his beautiful blue eyes gazed longingly into mine. “Hurry back.”

“You know I will,” I said, huskily.

“Excuse me. It’s not very professional to be making out with your help in front of your customers.”

Chance didn’t even glance his ex’s direction as he licked across his bottom lip with that cute pink tongue. That was an invitation I’d never deny, so I pressed a light, sweet kiss to his lips and strode out the front door. Going out to get their things was probably a better idea for me, anyway. Hanging around and watching the disgusting way Niles treated the cute guy he brought with him or how he dissected Chance with his eyes would only lead to a fight.

Chance had told me all about Niles and the six years he’d been with him and how dumb he’d felt once he realized what an ass he was. I’d assured him he was being too hard on himself, and I stood by that, but after only five minutes with the other man, I could understand why Chance was so disappointed in himself. Niles was a first-class snob, which wasn’t a look anyone wore well, in my opinion.

Outside the manor, I found a luxury silver metallic Mercedes. Of course that’s what he drives. What I didn’t expect to find was all of the brown and tan suitcases outside of the trunk and piled neatly, along with a large gray duffel bag with stickers, on the bellman’s cart. Before I had a chance to think Niles had actually lifted a finger for himself, I saw Buck waving at me from the parlor window with a huge smile. Returning it, I pressed my hands together in front of my body and did a half-bow before strolling the cart up the ramp on the side of the porch and into the house.
