Questions.
They wanted to know who had questions first. I started to laugh hysterically until tears ran down my face. I had so many fucking questions that I wasnât sure where to start. Suddenly, there was movement, then Robin and Wulfric were gone without a word. Blake was kneeling down in front of me, waiting. How long did I space out for?
âDo you want to go to my apartment? My TV isnât shot out, and my door is still on the hinges,â Blake carefully offered, watching me like a wild animal that could lash out at any moment. A pot and kettle moment come full circle if you ask me.
âNot sure how Iâm explaining that to Grady,â I huffed after a few moments. I tried to stand up, but I began to wobble, and my balance only worsened when I tried to dodge their hands. Because of course they tried to help me stand. âDonât. Just, I canâtââ
âOkay,â they said, their voice gentle as they withdrew their hand. They stood up and turned away, but not before I saw the flash of pain on their face. My heart ached at the sight, but I couldnât wrap my head around what was happening and all the information that had been thrown at me in the last ten minutes.
Blake walked out, giving me privacy to get myself together before following them to their apartment. My steps were unsteady, but I eventually made it there. Blake was sitting on their couch, chin resting on their knees, and I shut and locked the door behind me.
âIs that true? That Frederick would have raped me,â I asked, leaning my back against the door. I was as ready as Iâd ever be to talk about all this stuff, but I wasnât quite prepared to join them yet. I wasnât sure how I was feeling about all the reveals that had hit me left and right after I woke up today. Not to mention the way Anselâs presence made the memories of the basement come closer to the forefront of my mind. The past, the present, it was all getting dangerously twisted, and I could tell I was very close to a complete breakdown.
âYes.â That was it. A simple, concise answer with no explanation. So very fucking Blake.
âWhyââ I started and stopped. âWhy would you have protected me? Even when you were thirteen?â
âYou were mine,â they answered after a momentâs hesitation. âMy father told me his lines. No rape was one of his biggest ones. He never said the reasoning behind that firm rule, but it was reassuring that he had some limits.â They laughed humorlessly before they continued. âEven though I thought that Frederick raping me was one of my fatherâs tests, I never brought it up to Ansel himself. By the time I realized that it wasnât, it was too late.â Their words trailed off, but I could fill in the blanks pretty easily.
âI was property!â I yelled, needing to fucking lash out. âYou owned me like a fucking dog, and I was treated as less than fucking dirt.
