James drove off checking his phone for signs of life. Two bars appeared on the screen alerting him that he could successfully make a call. He quickly dialed the number for his attorney, Sterling Doucette.

After several rings, he was greeted by Sterling’s voicemail.

“Sterling, this is James. Trip and Jody got into a bit of trouble last night, but I spoke to the Sheriff. Everything is probably ok, but I just need you to be prepared in case the guy they roughed up presses charges,” he paused, taking in a deep sigh. “I also want to talk with you about amending my will. Call me when you get this. I don’t care how late.”

James waited for the tone signifying that his message had come to an end, but there was no notification. He pulled the phone away from his ear and saw that he had entered an area with no coverage.

He lay the phone in the seat next to him and continued down the road. His mind raced as he thought about the piece missing from his life for the past three decades. He had given up hope long ago, but today was different. It might be a long shot, but he would have to find out more about this young woman.
