Delectable Desserts
No matter how much anyone eats of the salad, the soup, and the main course, you’ll find that everyone saves room for dessert! (I’ve heard one man tell his kids, “I’ve got a pocket inside my tummy just for that purpose!”) Dessert is like the period in a sentence—what goes before it is just not complete until it’s added. However delicious or satisfying the hearty courses that precede dessert, most diners want something sweet before departing from the table.
This chapter is where I’ve chosen to highlight some grand finales that don’t fit into any of the other categories: luscious puddings like Daddy’s Bread Pudding, Southern Banana Pudding, and Lemon-Meringue Pudding Cups; cozy cobblers and crisps, including Apple Cinnamon Cobbler, Old-Time Apple Betty, and Grande Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp; and some delights that are a little bit of several things: Aaron’s Hot Fudge Pudding Cake, Cherry Almond Cobbler Criss Cross, Candy Bar Shortcakes, and Raspberry Orange Crumble.
