I floated on cloud nine all night as I mindlessly watched my garbage television.

I popped caramel popcorn into my mouth, chewing and swallowing and thinking about what JoJo was up to. Maybe he had gone for a drive to clear his head. Maybe he had gone home and was currently getting into the shower.

The thought alone made me squeeze my legs closed, lest the images in my mind run away with me.

I stayed up late with my popcorn before falling asleep upright on the couch, and when I woke up to the sun streaming through my lone window in the living room, I felt more rejuvenated than I had in months. I stood and stretched my arms over my head. I cracked my neck before I dragged myself to my room, determined to clean up the mess on the couch at another time. I piled into bed and wiggled beneath the covers, ready to sleep the entire day away.

But the dinging of the alarm on my phone quickly woke me up.

“Gotta turn those off,” I groaned.

I reached for my phone and silenced the alarm before I went into my alarm clock app and turned them off altogether. No use in morning work alarms if I didn’t have work to get to. However, I noticed that I had a few emails.

And when I checked them, I noticed that one was from JoJo.

Rebecca,

Attached is your resignation paperwork. I went ahead and filled it out as if you had put in a two-week notice, so you’ll get one last paycheck as well as a small extension on your benefits. I hope you consider it the basis of an apology you are owed from myself as well as this company.
