“I must say, you made the right decision,” Isaac said when we met again, this time in a conference room on the twentieth floor of a grand building.

It was a small room, intimate, with a table for six, carved wooden panels on three sides and a floor-to-ceiling glass window. Beyond it, I could see other skyscrapers and a glimpse of the bay beyond.

“Please make yourself comfortable,” he added. “Mr. Hunting will be here shortly.”

I nodded, sitting back on the large chair and turning it towards the window so I could savor the views, hoping that they would make me forget my doubts and fears. Isaac had said I had made the right decision but I wasn’t sure. In the past three nights, I had barely slept, wondering if I was really prepared to marry a man I had never met. What if we didn’t get along? What if he didn’t like me? What if he hurt me? What if…?”

My thoughts came to a stop as the door opened. I held my breath then turned around slowly and as I did, my heart stopped as well. In front of me stood the most good-looking man I had ever met, even more good-looking than his pictures online or in the magazine covers. He had dreamy blue eyes and brown curls, some of which cascaded down his wide forehead. He also had broad shoulders, the rest of him lean and firm. And when he parted his full lips, he showed a perfect row of white teeth, making for a breathless smile. Just looking at him, I immediately understood why women were drawn to him like bees to honey. Even I could not deny that I felt a spark of attraction.

“You are as beautiful as Isaac said,” Timothy spoke.

“And you’re a charmer like the magazines said.” I stood up and gave him a smile of my own.

“I wouldn’t know. I don’t really read magazines.”

It made me wonder what he read. What did rich people read? Well, I’d just have to find out later.

“I’m Gabrielle Green,” I introduced, extending my hand.

“Not for long,” he said as he shook it. “Very soon, you will be Gabrielle Hunting.”

Gabrielle Hunting. It sounded strange, though I had to admit the name had a nice ring to it.

Timothy handed me a folder. “Isaac told me to give you this so that you could sign it.”

I took it. “I see.”

I didn’t know why I was feeling disappointed that he was being so business-like. Our marriage was primarily a business arrangement, after all.

Keep it together, Gabrielle. You’ve only just met the man.

“Once you have, we can go ahead and plan our wedding,” he went on.

Nodding, I gathered my composure and opened the folder, reading the contract inside. Everything was just as Isaac had explained and so I took a deep breath and signed, putting myself in the hands of fate.

Now, there was no turning back.
